Re: Let's talk cold war rifles

From a “cold” war?
I am partial to the Finnish M39 myself.

Re: I am Also a Garand Collector Now

Congratulation. They’re fun to shoot. Collecting also but chasing down all the period correct parts, especially for early years is a full tike effort and not as easy or cheap as it used to be. Enjoy!

Re: Walther Sportmodell V

Very nice. I’ve heard nothing but good about the german and czech .22 trainers of the pre/post war era. I have a low end czech rifle and even with the rudimentary sights is amazing how well it shoots and the quality of the manufacture. and i really like the schnabel fore end.

Re: Tint wash to match wood finish

Nice post. This forum used to have a lot of this type of information. I used basically this method to match a few stocks to handguards or to refinish stocks that were in poor condition. I also did my kid's air rifles this way just for fun as the daisy stocks were bland and boring. It really made the...

Re: 2010 Yugoslav Mauser rifle (post WWII) crest study

Interesting reference. I had some M48s and M24/47s and they were all nice looking rifles. It is a pretty crest and a study like this is a great way to date some rifles.

My M1 Garand - Springfield Armory

I have been called many things, but a good photographer is not one of them. I had to pull some documents out of the safe and decided to take a quick iphone pic of my M1 Garand. I have a few days off coming up and plan to do some annual cleanup of a few rifles and will make time to take pics to post ...

Re: You never know what turns up in trash cans

Nice! I missed the original pics. We don’t get stuff like that in Florida too much. I have an acquaintance that ran an antique shop and he says the problem is that everyone that retires to Florida from older generations sells all the stuff in their home up North first and then moves south to retire ...

Re: Brass tracking

Thanks for the info. I’m trying to organize a mountain of coffee tins full of brass to make better use of space and also keep sorted by type and number of reloads or specific rifle. I also use excels to track info but am looking for an effective way to physically store and track the brass. My son bo...

Re: Swapping primers for 5.56

Rob, Great info and detail. Does this go both ways? I know a lot of IDPA/USPSA shooters reloading 9mm with small rifle primers and have read several forum discussions. This is the first time i’ve seen the opposite. 1blue. I’m sure there is a pistol reloader desperate for primers that might be sittin...

Brass tracking

How do you track how many reloads you’ve done on a rifle case? For example, I have 500 brass for 8mm. I keep 400 stored in a box labeled “once fired”. The other 100 are used and reloaded over and over and I just keep them in a box where each time I reload the batch I cross out 3x and mark the box 4x...

Re: Annealing or not?

I don’t anneal but that’s good to know about the .303 brass. I have been saving brass to reload and didn’t realize it will wear out faster. I guess the chambers are oversized compared to commercial ammo specs? I didn’t plan to fire form since I have three of them and don’t want to track rounds by ri...
